Separate storage from compute
A server runs services. A NAS stores data. Some hardware can do both, but the diagram should still show the role clearly. HLBuilder has separate NAS and server node types for that reason.
The layout becomes easier to change when storage and compute are not mixed in the user interface. A user can move a service host without losing sight of the backup target.
Keep storage on the wired path
Storage traffic should be easy to locate in the diagram. Put the NAS on the switch path, then place servers or mini PCs that use that storage nearby. The visual builder does not need to model every packet; it needs to show dependency.
If the NAS is also the backup target, label it that way. This helps a user check whether the only copy of important data is sitting on the same host as the services that change often.
